Adult & Corporate Group Information

Visit Details

The People’s House offers adult education experiences on weekdays starting at 9:00am (morning session) and 1:00pm (afternoon session). If these dates and times do not work for you, please indicate what does on the request form and we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.

While programming may include a White House Historical Association speaker and use of our state-of-the-art classroom space, speakers do not lead or accompany tours through the exhibit spaces. Expect to dedicate 60 minutes exploring our exhibits and 30 minutes with a speaker.

These experiences are best suited for groups between 10-90. Larger groups (37+) might be broken into two sessions.

Classroom Sessions

Our historians, educators, and other experts will enhance your visit with programming in our state-of-the-art classrooms (approximately 30 minutes).

Select your preferred topic in the request form below:

1. The People’s House: This presentation explores the architectural history of the Executive Mansion, spanning from its design and construction to modern White House renovations and additions.

2. First Families: The White House is first and foremost a home to the first family. This presentation features stories about some of its most famous occupants – presidents, first ladies, presidential children, and grandchildren, and even pets. If your group would prefer a presentation that focuses more on one of these groups (for example first ladies), please let us know when filling out the form.

3. Slavery in the White House: Many people think of the White House as a symbol of democracy, but it also embodies America's complicated past and the paradoxical relationship between slavery and freedom in the nation's capital. This presentation explores the stories of enslaved people who built and worked at the White House, and highlights some of the key discoveries made through the Association's innovative research initiative.

4. The Working White House: This presentation examines the evolution of staff roles over time, the people behind the scenes, and how modern employees have dedicated their careers to the White House.

5. The White House Collection: This presentation details the history behind the creation of the permanent collection. It will highlight a variety of fine and decorative arts pieces and furnishings, as well as the individuals responsible for formalizing and maintaining the collection.
